![]() It looks dated in every possible way unlike the Hyundai Kona and the Volkswagen Taos. Like the exterior, the cabin is not the funkiest you can get for the price. As for the wheel options, we get 17-inch ones as standard while the Sport gets the 18 inchers. The rear door handles are placed on the C-Pillar and are very similar to something we have seen with the Toyota C-HR. There is an LED cluster for the brake lights at the rear but the overall design is dated, severely. Choosing the Sport trim will let you have roof rails and foglights. The chunky chrome bar surrounding the Honda logo makes the look better. The front face is very similar to the other Honda SUVs like the big-bollocks Pilot. ![]() So we have halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lights at the front. However, Honda recently teased the upcoming HR-V which might be a game-changer for the Japanese car giant. Fast-forward to 2022, we have the gorgeous-looking Volkswagen Taos, Hyundai Kona, and Mazda CX-5. But it did not stand out even at that moment. The facelift brought changes to the front bumpers, a new design for the lights, and a few other exterior tweaks. It's a shame that the company's most popular compact SUV is still in its first generation and has had one facelift in 2019. The thing we see with Honda cars is that they are reliable, cheap and all that but the overall design has never been the most modern. For the 2022 model year, the HR-V did not receive any update and the outgoing model year got some barely noticeable features such as the new wheel design while Sport added rear privacy glass, and the Touring trim was dropped from the lineup. The recently reviewed Volkswagen Taos joined the party late but its arrival was important as it is more modern looking, has a turbocharged engine, gets equipped with decent driver aids, and whatnot! We have the facelifted Kona, and the Mazda CX-30 to fill up the remaining space but the former is a bit more compact and can be felt in the rear row. However, there are a lot of changes needed for it to survive where the budget crossover segment is more alive than ever. The most important factor of considering the HR-V would be its spacious interior which includes the Magic Seat second row. Six years down the road, we see a bunch of changes like a modern-looking exterior and interior along with a bunch of feature updates. Back in 2016, the HR-V seemed to be a great choice as it was cheap, had great reliability, and most importantly, it was comfortable. ![]() Compact family crossovers in the budget were quite an unpopular concept before the HR-V arrived.
